Annual Conference of the Children s Rights Ombudsperson s Network in South and Eastern Europe, organized by the Ombudsman of Republic of Serbia was held in Belgrade from 17th to 19th September 2014. The topic of the Conference was: Economic crisis: services for children (did not) survive(d).What do we do?
Considering that many problems, families are faced to, in conditions of economic crisisis, directly affect the children, and their basic and developmental needs and the need for social integration, the Conference was an opportunity for the Ombudsman for Children to exchange information, identify good practice and indicate the need of additional care for every child.
On the meeting with members of the Parliamentary Committee on the Rights of the Child, held in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, participants emphasized the need of improvement and better cooperation between the Asembly and Ombudsman Institution, in order to improve the system of child protection.
At the Conference, ombudsman for Children of RS Mrs. Nada Grahovac pointed to the position of children with disabilities and the need of removing the numerous barriers, which prevents their optimal growth and development of their potential, primarily related to the early identification and adequate professional support at an early age, the need for systematic solutions, related to the support of children in the educational system, the realization of the right to a day care.
