Representatives of the Ombudsman for Children attended a two-day Workshop on "Prevention of Domestic Violence", organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska and Instrument of the European Commission for Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX).
Numerous speakers from different countries spoke about examples of good practice in the prevention and suppression of domestic violence, treatment of the victims, prosecution of offenders, with particular emphasis on EU regulations and international strategic documents that regulate this area.
One of the most important documents relating to the prevention of domestic violence is the Istanbul's Convention of the Council of Europe, which has been ratified by B&H.
The conclusions of this workshop are that in most cases victims of domestic violence are women and children, and that necessary is improvement of cooperation between the competent authorities with regard to the processing of offenders and implementation of adequate security measures, but that also very important is to educate the population in order to achieve better prevention.
