Today in Zagreb was held a Thematic Meeting of the Ombudsmen for Children of South-East Europe, hosted by the Institution of the Ombudsman for Children of Republic of Croatia. The topic of the meeting was "Children on the Move."

At the meeting, representatives of non-governmental organizations, NGO Athens Belgrade, "Zdravo da ste" Banja Luka and the Center for Children's Rights in Montenegro, have presented results of research on children on the move in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, and the representatives of Institutions of Ombudsman for Children spoke about the experiences of institutions in protection of rights and interests of this category of children.

Ombudsman for Children, Nada Grahovac pointed out results of research of the Ombudsman for Children related to the protection of children from begging and protection of children from sexual abuse and exploitation, and particularly she stressed the need for full harmonization of existing laws, policies and practices in all areas with basic requirements and principles of the Convention. "Children on the Move" are just children who in various stages of their travel are facing many situations that the system must recognize and respond adequately, such as appropriate reception conditions for the child, access to education and health services, appointing guardian to a child, providing interpreter and legal advisor, participation of a child and respecting child's opinion in all actions and decisions that are affecting it and many other issues.
