Special Report of the Ombudsman for Children on beggary of children in Republic of Srpska is the result of the first comprehensive study of child beggary phenomenon, which in addition to the number of children recorded in beggary also shows age of children, sex, the causes that lead to beggary, treatment of competent authorities.
Statistically speaking, and compared to neighboring countries, the number of children - 131 children recorded in beggary in all municipalities of Republic of Srpska in 2010. is not worrying, but bearing in mind the causes of this phenomenon and consequences that living and working on street leave on the development and growing up of a child, by timely and joint action of different subjects of protection of children, the registered number of children in beggary in Republic of Srpska can be significantly reduced.
Protection of fundamental rights and interests of these children requires first of all recognition that children at risk grow up in conditions that leave serious medical, educational, social and other consequences of systematic approach in:
- timely recognition of this category of children
- defining the activities of different subjects of protection
- joint and coordinated work of relevant institutions and services
- keeping appropriate records at a uniform methodology for all children at risk.
