Safe school environment is the right of students and responsibility of teachers.
Every child has the right to be protected against all forms of violence, and there is no reason for any child to put up with a violent behavior from anyone. Also, there is not justification for lack of adults' reactions in protection of children.
There are three key words:
· Right - Every students has their right to safe school environment
· Rules - the school have to clearly define the rules of a school discipline which apply to all under same conditions
· Responsibility - parents and teachers have the responsibility to perform constant supervision and timely react in the cases of peer violence, and children have the responsibility to respect the rights of other and different ones. The teachers and parents have to demonstrate that they are in charge of the situation and that they will not tolerate any case of peer violence.
Violence among the children is never justifiable and can and has to be prevented. That is the message of the International day of prevention of peer violence.
This day is marked every last Wednesday in the month of February with the aim to underline the existence of peer violence and its consequence on development and growth of a child. It also emphasize the necessity of close cooperation between the parents and school in identification of the violent behavior and prompt reaction in every individual case.
On the occasion of the International day of prevention of peer violence the Ombudsman for Children will attend the event in the primary school "Milan Rakic" in Karanovac and the central event "Stop to peer violence" to be held in the primary school "Aleksa Santic"in Banjaluka on 21 February 2017.
