Ombudsman for Children, Ms Nada Grahovac, has met Mr Sasa Milovanovic, the President of the Association for Psychological and Polygraph Researches and his associates, in the premises of the Institution today. The topic of the meeting was establishment of the register of perpetrators of sexual abuse and exploitation of children.  At the occasion, the Ombudsman for Children was awarded with the honorable membership in the Association for Psychological and Polygraph Researches.

The joint conclusion from the meeting is that the adoption of the law on such register is an important and demanding task. The law should define important issues such as who would be in the register; whether the minors would be in the register: the perpetrators of which offences would be in the register: which are special measures, obligations and restrictions to be installed for these persons: which is period of time for the person to remain in the register: who is maintaining the register: who is supervising people who are in the register: who has access to the register's data: which are the sanctions for not fulfilling legal obligations, etc.

Having in mind the complexity of the issues and different legal solutions in other countries as well as the necessity to engage professionals with different backgrounds including those who work directly with children in the process, it was agreed to organize a roundtable discussion on all relevant issues that need to be regulated by the law. The roundtable discussion will take place in mid-October.
