At the invitation of the President of Parents' Council, Mr. Marko Milić, the Ombudsman for Children Nada Grahovac attended the 5th regular session of the Parents' Council in the Elementary School "Sveti Sava" in Zvornik on Tuesday, June 11.

The very fact that visit to the school was initiated by parents speaks about the interest of parents and their readiness to, by different activities, contribute to better quality education of their children, which includes not only the curriculum but also equipment of school and conditions for educational work, relations of employees towards students, school competitions, special care for children with disabilities, protection of health of students, cooperation with local community and numerous other issues that are current in school every day. Parents stressed the weight of school bags and its impact on health of students and on the need for a dentist in school.

The principal, Mrs. Nada Zekić, has confirmed good cooperation with parents to the Ombudsman for Children noting that the school has 1350 students and that good indicators about school work are the result of joint effort and investment.

The Ombudsman for Children has familiarized the attendees with numerous and different issues of children's growing up on which the Institution has acted and particularly stressed the importance of cooperation between parents and school. Creating partnership relations between parents and school is a condition without which it is not possible to talk about quality education and upbringing of children, without that cooperation it is not possible to achieve educational goals that are defined by law.

The Ombudsman for Children will, at the beginning of new school year, visit again the school when workshops for children on the benefits and risks of using the Internet will be organized.

With the director of the Social Welfare Center Zvornik, Mr. Vukašin Nikolić, the Ombudsman for Children discussed the cases within the jurisdiction of the Centre upon which the Institution has acted.
