Bosnia and Herzegovina has ratified the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Official Gazette of B&H, International Treaties, No. 11/12).

By ratifying the Convention, Bosnia and Herzegovina has committed itself to harmonize its legislation with the requirements of the Convention, in order to ensure the protection of children from all forms of sexual violence, abuse and exploitation, including, inter alia:

- Increased penalties for perpetrators of these acts,

- Prohibition to perpetrators of these acts to work with children on any grounds, - Statute of limitations for these offenses is counted from the child's age of majority,

- Increase the minimum age for voluntary consent to sexual intercourse,

- Establish a register-database of perpetrators of these crimes.

All these measures, to which, among others,  the Convention commits, should contribute to better protection of children from these worst forms of abuse and should keep perpetrators of these acts "under control".
