In Skopje, on May 20th, the Thematic meeting of the Institutions of Ombudsman for Children of South East Europe was held on the topic "The Role of Ombudsman in protecting children from corporal and psychological punishment".
Unfortunately, it was concluded that violence against children is increasingly widespread, that children do not recognize it as their right to protection from all forms of violence, and that children from fear and shame do not report domestic violence. Statistical data on violence against children does not reflect the real situation. Corporal punishment is still present as a disciplinary measure and educational method, as only 29 countries in the world expressly prohibited any form of corporal punishment of children. Psychological punishment of children is more difficult to recognize, is rarely reported, prevention programs and greater connectivity of all subjects of protection in the system are missing.
